The City of Quitman will host a public workshop featuring a Building Department Overview on Thursday, May 21 at 5:00 p.m. at Quitman Public Library prior to the regular May City Council meeting.
The workshop will focus on building department services and the role they play in public safety, development, permitting, inspections, and long-term community planning. Residents, business owners, contractors, and community stakeholders are encouraged to attend, hear the presentation, ask questions, and share their thoughts on the topic.
Discussion topics will include:
✔️ Why Have a Building Department?
✔️ Community Benefits of a Building Department
✔️ Building Codes and Their Role for Your City
✔️ Permit Requirements and Inspections
✔️ Code Enforcement and Community Development
The presentation will also discuss how building departments can impact neighborhood standards, property values, insurance ratings, infrastructure planning, and future growth within Texas communities.
As Quitman continues planning for the future, city leaders said community input is an important part of the conversation.
“This is an opportunity for residents to learn more about the topic, hear information firsthand, and be part of the discussion as Quitman continues to grow,” City Administrator Allan Gilbert said.
The workshop is open to the public.
