The Quitman Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1947.  Currently the department is staffed by a part-time chief, full-time Fire/Safety Administrator and 22 volunteer firefighters.

The Department is funded by the City of Quitman, Wood County, state and federal grants and private donations.
