My family moved to Quitman in July 1986 from Lubbock.  Teresa and I have been married 36 years.  We have 2 married daughters, Miranda and Darrin Asmussen and Lauren and Corey Backer, 4 grandchildren, River, Camden, Sophie and Livvie Asmussen.  We love living here and have truly been blessed by the citizens of this community.  The outpouring of support for our little Sophie, to be able to receive special treatment for her brain tumor in 2008, was simply amazing.  That is small town America at its finest!  I have worked for Texas Farm Bureau Ins. Co. since April 1983, currently as Dist. Sales Mgr. in northeast Texas.

I am excited to serve on the city council and look forward to the efforts being made to bring businesses and tourists to our area.  We are the best kept secret in Texas and have plenty to offer.  We should all be proud of the employees we have in the city, the job they do and the tenure that brings to the table.  Our fire department is one of the best in the state no doubt.  We have good schools, churches and a great place to raise a family.

I hope the citizens will embrace the efforts to promote our town and build businesses so our young folks can live and work here.  I am excited for what lies ahead for Quitman.  I hope you will notify me with any ideas or concerns and let me be of service to you as a citizen.  I am proud to serve on the city council and hope that I can be a positive force for the future of our town.
